Dear Reader:

If you really need to figure something out, the best way is to write it down. Digital devices can be convenient, but there is something special about the pen. Regardless of the medium, it helps to promise to dispose of whatever you write and then follow through on that promise. This maximizes the chances of some truth ending up on the page. I’ve found that truth never comes from the mind or thought and to eliminate the possibility of a reader, even if that reader is your future self, is most effective.

Maybe I should sell journals with tearable pages and a box of matches and an ashtray.

Sincerely,
Dave

P.S. Someone has created a burn after writing journal. It’s a bestseller marketed as a self-help book and is filled with cheesy prompts. God help us.
